The European Union recently passed the law to regulate the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive and the Waste in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive. Such directive influences Portwell manufacture strategy by aggressively develop lead-free products to meet the standards. Since the lead-free issue arose, Portwell was elected by Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, R.O.C. to be a proactive industry leader that was the first one with fully government funding to implement the cleaner production project among all our competitors. It is certainly sure that Portwell is not only having the best administration, R&D team and production process but also fastidious commitment to quality to win this honor.
The cleaner production project owned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs is designed to assist enterprise in the successful implementation of cleaner production. The Ministry of Economic Affair selects enterprise as central factory and assigns consulting team that has extensive experience in cleaner production and products, and consults to enterprise and suppliers across the business spectrum. The implement is deployed not only through product design but also product utilization.
Besides, they bring together the entire enterprise to reduce and figure out environmental problem from internal to external; however, it would increase our competitive capability. In addition to that, Portwell is eligible to receive fully support and funding source from government going through the WEEE and RoHS transformation. Through this cooperation with government keeps Portwell continually establishing cleaner production, furthermore, more effectively to build product design and integrated management system in order to upgrade entire environmental and supply chain performance.
Portwell has been deploying to integrate R&D, production technology and material to meet green product requirement. The lead-free product has been achieved by 95 percent. However, until Intel announces lead-free chipset in Q3, 2005, Portwell will be able to launch product with the new lead-free technology meeting RoHS and WEEE compliance for customers' approval and utilization. To achieve this RoHS transformation, Portwell has purchased two sets of XRF inspection equipments to inspect material and finished good whether it meets RoHS policy or not. It could be more effective to control product quality to answer green product requirement.
It is planning to hold the performance conference of the cleaner production activity by Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, R.O.C to release the effort and result of WEEE and RoHS Portwell will achieved in November, 2005.
