Portwell Inc., a world-leading innovator and supplier of Internet Security Appliances and a member of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance, announces RF-330, a new single-card acceleration adaptor with built-in security. Based on the Multi-Core MIPS-64 technology from Cavium Networks, the RF-330 uses Cavium’s Octeon CN38XX series network services processors to provide packet processing with up 16 cores to support both Host Mode for a standalone system board and Target Mode as a PCI-X add-on card. Built-in security features include: de/compression, encryption/decryption, regular expression, pattern matching, TCP acceleration, SSL, IPS, Antivirus and QoS (Quality of Service).
The new RF-330 16-core PCI-X network acceleration adaptor is ideal for applications such as Security Network Services and Compression acceleration in security, storage and networking appliances - specifically IP security (IPSEC) acceleration, content inspection/management within information management systems (IMS), 3G/4G and VoIP Security applications, and policy management and high performance routing.
Simplified, single-card solution
"Our customers were seeking to simplify the physical hardware required for packet optimization without losing valuable features," says Polo Huang, Assistant VP of Communication Appliance Business Unit, Portwell, Inc., "and we have more than met those needs. Not only does Portwell RF-330 advanced packet optimizing card enhance our customers’ x86 server with MIPS multi-core power, it provides rich built-in security and expansion features in a single card that offers market-leading performance."
Market-leading Performance
"The Cavium Network Octeon engine that drives this unit can tap into as many as sixteen MIPS64 processor cores," explains Polo Huang. "We’ve enhanced the compression performance to as high as 6 Gbps, which we believe is the best on the market today, and we’ve combined that with equally outstanding security acceleration for IPS/SSL and TCP of up to 10 Gbps. The RF-330 offers a full Intrusion Prevention/Antivirus solution that uses RegEx (regular expression) pattern-matching engines with speeds of up to 4Gbps," he adds. "What’s more, by using an SPI 4.2 connector, we can maximize performance scalability. All in all, the new RF-330 supplies our customers with a rapid time to market for a wide range of x86-based appliance systems from a single card."
