Portwell, Inc., a global provider of industrial and medical computing solutions, introduces the MEDS-7081 as a high-performance, highly expandable medical-grade Box PC powered by 14th/13th/12th Gen Intel®Core™ i9/i7/i5/i3 processors.
As healthcare providers increasingly adopt AI-assisted diagnostics, high-resolution medical imaging, telemedicine, and data-intensive clinical applications, medical computing platforms must deliver greater processing performance while supporting flexible integration with specialized medical equipment. Designed for applications including telemedicine, medical imaging, medical carts, operating room (OR) systems, diagnostic equipment, and Edge AI inference, MEDS-7081 provides a scalable computing platform for medical device manufacturers and healthcare solution providers developing clinical systems.
MEDS-7081 supports 14th Gen Intel®Core™ processors with TDP ratings up to 65W, delivering high-performance computing for demanding medical applications. Selected processors feature Intel®’s performance hybrid architecture, combining Performance-cores (P-cores) and Efficient-cores (E-cores) to efficiently handle intensive application workloads and background tasks.
MEDS-7081 supports up to 64GB of DDR5 SO-DIMM memory, an M.2 NVMe SSD, and dual SATA 3.0 storage devices. PCIe Gen5 x16 expansion provides high-bandwidth connectivity for discrete GPUs, AI accelerators, frame grabbers, and other application-specific cards.
Additional features include dual 2.5GbE LAN, USB 3.2 Type-A and Type-C connectivity, HDMI® output supporting resolutions up to 4K, TPM 2.0 for hardware-based security, and a 900W Flex ATX medical-grade power supply. 14th Gen Intel®Core™ processors also offer technologies such as Intel®Deep Learning Boost, helping accelerate supported AI inference workloads.
“The growing demand for real-time, local processing of high-volume medical imaging data and AI-assisted clinical workloads is driving the need for high-performance, expandable Box PC systems such as MEDS-7081, with the flexibility to integrate specialized clinical devices,” said Bill Ren, Product Manager at Portwell. “MEDS-7081 combines high-performance Intel®Core™ processing with PCIe Gen5 expansion and versatile I/O, giving developers the flexibility to configure the computing and acceleration resources required by different medical applications.”
MEDS-7081 is designed to address diverse medical computing scenarios. For telemedicine and medical imaging, its multi-core processing, DDR5 memory and high-bandwidth expansion can support image acquisition, visualization, processing and AI-assisted analysis. In medical carts, its compact 210(W) x 400(D) x 234(H) mm design enables smooth integration into mobile clinical systems while providing connectivity for displays, storage and medical peripherals.
For operating room (OR) systems and diagnostic equipment, PCIe expansion enables integration with specialized acquisition, graphics and accelerator cards, while the platform supports medical safety and EMC requirements including IEC/EN 60601-1 and IEC/EN 60601-1-2, alongside CE and FCC compliance. For Edge AI inference, developers can combine the processor’s AI-related capabilities with optional discrete accelerators to process data locally, helping enable low-latency AI-assisted workflows without requiring every workload to be sent to the cloud.
“Medical applications vary widely in their requirements, from imaging and diagnostics to AI-assisted clinical workflows. As a result, developers need flexible computing platforms that can be configured to support different performance, connectivity and expansion needs,” Ren added. “The MEDS-7081 is designed to provide that flexibility within one scalable medical computing platform, helping customers develop systems around their specific clinical workflows and performance requirements.”
With healthcare continuing to move toward more connected, data-driven and AI-assisted workflows, MEDS-7081 brings together high-performance Intel®Core™ processing, DDR5 memory, PCIe Gen5 expansion, high-speed networking, medical-oriented power design and compliance support in a single platform. Its combination of computing performance and expansion flexibility enables medical equipment developers to address applications ranging from medical imaging and diagnostic systems to mobile clinical workstations and Edge AI inference.
By providing a configurable computing platform capable of supporting evolving workloads and peripheral requirements, Portwell MEDS-7081 helps medical solution providers accelerate system integration and build intelligent, high-performance and scalable healthcare solutions.
