Portwell Releases PCOM-BC00 SMARC 2.2 Module for Compact and Power-Efficient Edge Computing

Available in:

Portwell, a global provider of embedded computing solutions, announced the launch of PCOM-BC00, a SMARC 2.2 module featuring the power-efficient Intel®Atom® x7000E/RE Series processors. Designed to address the growing demand for compact, scalable, and AI-ready edge computing platforms, PCOM-BC00 delivers a balanced combination of computing performance, connectivity, and long-term deployment flexibility for a wide range of industrial applications. As industries increasingly adopt intelligent automation, machine vision, autonomous systems, and connected edge devices, embedded modules are expected to provide higher computing density while maintaining low power consumption and compact form factors. PCOM-BC00 expands Portwell’s SMARC module portfolio with support for edge AI computing, LPDDR5 memory, and enhanced connectivity options that help developers and system integrators accelerate product development and reduce time-to-market.

Power-Efficient Computing and Connectivity for Modern Edge Applications

Built on Intel®Atom® x7000E/RE Series processors with up to 8 cores and a configurable 6W–15W TDP, PCOM-BC00 offers an ideal balance of computing performance and energy efficiency. The module supports up to 16GB onboard LPDDR5 memory and up to 256GB onboard eMMC 5.1 storage, providing faster data access and reliable system responsiveness for edge workloads. Comprehensive I/O support includes 4x PCIe Gen3 x1, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2, 6x USB 2.0, 2x 2.5GbE, 2x UART, 1x SATA, and versatile triple display support, led by a standard DP++ and SKU-dependent choices of HDMI®/DP and eDP/LVDS to fit specific customer needs. PCOM-BC00 also supports MIPI-CSI camera interfaces (1x 2-lane + 1x 4-lane) and optional CAN Bus connectivity, providing additional flexibility for vision-based and industrial control applications. “PCOM-BC00 builds upon our SMARC portfolio with enhanced capabilities for modern edge applications,” said Kasper Tsai, Product Manager at Portwell. “Compared with the previous-generation platform, this new module delivers improvements in performance, storage capacity, and peripheral integration. The addition of MIPI-CSI support and optional CAN Bus connectivity provides customers with greater design flexibility for edge AI, portable devices, and autonomous systems.”

Optimized for Intelligent Retail, Industrial Automation, Food Processing, and Defense Applications

PCOM-BC00 has been specifically designed to support diverse industrial markets where reliability, compactness, and long product lifecycles are critical. In Intelligent Retail, its rich display interfaces and networking capabilities make it ideal for kiosks, self-service terminals, digital signage, payment systems, and interactive information displays. For Industrial Automation, the module provides the connectivity, scalability, and power-efficient computing required for AGVs, AMRs, and portable devices. In the Food & Chemical Industry, PCOM-BC00 supports processing equipment, quality inspection systems, and production line monitoring applications that demand stable operation in challenging environments. Additionally, its compact SMARC form factor (82mm x 50mm), low power consumption, and robust design make it highly suitable for military and defense-centric applications, including drones, portable mission systems, navigation devices, surveillance platforms, and intelligent monitoring solutions. “Solutions providers today are looking for embedded platforms that can serve multiple application domains without sacrificing performance or reliability,” added Tsai. “PCOM-BC00 provides a highly versatile foundation that helps developers build scalable solutions across retail, industrial, food processing, and defense sectors while maintaining development efficiency.”

Supporting the Evolution of Edge Computing

As edge computing continues to drive digital transformation across industries, businesses require embedded platforms that combine performance, flexibility, and long-term reliability. Portwell’s PCOM-BC00 addresses these requirements through its power-efficient Intel®Atom® x7000E/RE Series processors, enhanced storage capabilities, MIPI-CSI support, optional CAN Bus connectivity, and comprehensive industrial I/O features. By enabling faster system development and supporting a broad range of intelligent edge applications, PCOM-BC00 empowers OEMs, system integrators, and solution providers to bring innovative products to market with confidence. With its compact SMARC 2.2 design and industrial-focused feature set, PCOM-BC00 provides a flexible foundation for evolving edge applications across intelligent retail, industrial automation, food processing, and mission-critical embedded computing.
